Your standard definition of 'swamp rock' will usually include references to R-and-B, rockabilly, country, blues, and boogie-woogie influences; you'll also probably hear geographic and cultural indicators like New Orleans, Acadia, Louisiana, French and Cajun. What most descriptions tend to omit though are the humidity, sweat, and stickiness of the music, the feeling it has of oozing out the musicians' pores as they struggle with the overbearing mugginess by getting drunk and dancing until the wee hours of the morning. The bass is thick, the guitars chunky, the voices weighted down with lethargy...but in spite of, or perhaps as a result of, the oppressive heat, the groove chugs along at a pace that can navigate the muddy waters of the quagmire. Here are some examples of that music that helps you stay afloat when all else seems to be bogging you down.
