The results were never so marginal. They used to be wildly robust. There used to be a bounteous amount of love and sweetness milling around. It used to be as thick as summer bugs, chasing folks from the backyards and the parks, right into their protective homes. Sometimes it would be there awaiting anyhow, having gotten in a different way, through the screens, the doggy door or down the chimney. It was everywhere anyone looked and it was good. It was plentiful and it was the only thing that mattered. It was a lifesaver. It was live-giving and it was somewhat miraculously beautiful and then, one day, these folks lost track of it. It was gone away and they were left to consider its departure.
This is where the sisters of Lily & Madeleine come in, where they pick up the story. It's in this absence of a love that once existed where they inhabit. They sing, "If only my eyes could see as high as the mountain, or wherever your heart's gone," and it's an intoxicating blend of sadness and hopefulness. They were left with empty hands and partially empty hearts, but they're trying everything they can occupy the love that they used to possess.
