Bill's influence on music was global. I was living in Amsterdam during the great music scene and used to go to a venue called Paradiso, modeled after Fillmore East And West. And when I moved to California, we frequented a great venue in Long Beach called the Fox Theatre, also a Bill Graham's enterprise with free music on Wednesdays and thursdays, and great concerts on week-ends for $3. Those were the days, my friends.

Performers that day in Golden Gate Park at "The Bill Graham Wake": The Dirty Dozen Brass Band, Joe Satriani, Aaron Neville, Bobby McPherin, Journey, Santana/Los Lobos/Santana, Tracy Chapman, Crosby Stills Nash and Young, Robin Williams, Jackson Brown, The Grateful Dead, John Fogerty backed by The Dead, Neil Young backed by The Dead, Joan Baez. A restored white double prop airplane flew low and slow over the crowd in the polo field dropping flowers numerous times. There was an alter with Bill Graham's picture where people put incense, flowers, stones, jewelry, gods eyes, ect. David Graham, Bill's son, talked about his dad and Bill Graham Productions future to start the wake/show. Bill Walton was in attendance as well. I will never ever forget that vivid day having to say good by to such a mover and shaker in the music business who was about to put a stop to the continuing ruthlessness of Ticketmaster. God bless Bill Graham who produced great concerts I attended many times over many years in many venues in many California citys and suburbs. I could never sneak into a Bill Graham show, the security was always superb except when Peter Grant beat up Bill's right hand man for nothing in Oakland. Bill tried to put Jerry Garcia's guitar back together one night when it got dropped on the stage and Jerry was to stoned to fix it. That is the kind of guy Bill Graham was. One night I was stoned trying to adjust the sound of Barry Melton's amplifier at The Carousel. Bill tapped me on the shoulder, saw I was stoned, realizing that I shouldn't be messing with Barry's amp, and led me back into the crowd to keep grooving. That is the real Bill Graham people. He was a very good man!

I already posted at the Dead set but it bears repeating that Carlos doing "I Love You Much Too Much" was THE moment of the show for me, you could feel him reach with his guitar right into your heart and compel you to feel your emotions, pulling them out and sending them upward in unison to Bill and his compadres. The whole day was an amazing outpouring of love and good vibrations in celebration of what Bill brought to all of us over the years but the Santana set was transcendent!

many bad-talked Bill and his stranglehold of venues in the Bay Area, but I always remember that we had the best shows and lowest prices, and he tried his best to keep the big scalpers out of the business God Bless Bill and Winterland is forever in my heart

Lurker, but one whom has stood at the front doors of the original Fillmore and the ghost of Winterland. These just blow me away. Can't believe all this great music is available for us all to enjoy. Especially these jewels from Santana. Glad to hear the litigation has been settled. Trust me, even if I had to pay for these I would, especially if the funds from that would be directed to some group that was helping less fortunate folks. I would consider it a small price to pay for the pleasure of hearing and enjoying these great sounds.

I really don't know where to add my comments for this day , so I'll pick Santana because they were are one of my favorites. Laughter,Love & Music. A sad day , but a day for celebration. When I was in line at Winterland , many , many times , Bill would come out and greet us , and I thanked him on many occasions for the great times he was providing me and I knew that when this was over , it would never be the same. He would then thank me , and ask for my opinion on certain bands and the overall experience . He always put on the best shows , and tried to give the audience the best for their buck . Through the years after Winterland , I would still see him at The Fillmore and other venues , and when I would approach him he'd still remember me from the Winterland days . It was a great memorial concert , but the thing I remember most was Jerry Pompeli mentioning all the venues that Bill had put on shows at in the bay area , and I thought , I'd been to all these places , but it's now over . My wife and I attend the Bill Birthday Bash at The Fillmore in January , but it just isn't the same without him making stage announcments and just hanging around . He's missed . Thanx Bill for all the great times . You were always cool with me .
