Concert Summary

A week after the release of their fourth album, Infinity, which ended up going platinum, Journey took the stage at the Palladium in New York. Boasting a new, vivacious singer named Steve Perry, Journey was well on their way to stardom as they rock a polished, radio-ready sound and commercially viable singles.

Jumpstarting their 42-minute show with “Feeling That Way,” the band cruises through a seven-song set, one that includes the sorts of flashy keyboard, drum, and guitar solos that the following decade would became representative of. A telling peek into the direction that…entire summary

ALthough Escape & the follow ups with Perry at the helm sold by the truckloads,I always thought this lineup was the ultimate version of Journey.I went to school with Dunbar's replacment Steve Smith's brothers-is he still in Frisco playing jazz fusion?ANd Schon for my money was always one of the most underrated rock guitarists-he should get back with Sammy Hagar or Jan hammer.

Thanks for the clarifications. This is one for the ages.

This is definitely Ansley Dunbar on drums, he didn't "leave" the band until the fall of '78. A few errors to note. 1: In the summary, it says Los Angeles, when it's clearly New York. 2: It's LA DO DA not LA DO DAY... 3: The date seems funny, most sources agree that this show should be dated earlier like 3/35/78 and indeed if it was shortly after the release of Infinity (which was Jan. '78 according to their website) then March seems more likely than May. Plus they were in Boise, Idaho on 28 May '78 anyway..still a great show!

It was Ansley Dunbar. He left after the Infinity album.

I noticed Steve Smith is credited on the concert summary but at the end of the drum solo on "Wheel In The Sky" someone calls out "Ansley Dunbar", who was the drummer on the "Infinity" album.
