Concert Summary

This show was recorded on ELP’s legendary Works tour, which began with a 65-piece orchestra and choir that the group took on the road. Arguably one of the biggest undertakings in rock history, after three weeks of performing to great reviews the band had to drop the massive entourage; even with most of the shows selling out, the enterprise had already cost the band $4 million. In the end, it was decided they would carry on with their usual three-piece format, and the remaining three weeks of the U.S./Canada tour featured this lineup.

There are plenty of live ELP albums…entire summary

Yea, bterry has it right. Keith did fall in the Lake as we called it. Lot's of things went on in the Lake. Every time we did a gig there as it was hot for the sound checks we went in after. Really had fun with the Dead crew and the chicks we could grab at the time.

I was in the USAF, stationed in the UK, early 70's. Wife & I went to see ELP at Wembley arena to see the Welcome Back My Friends tour. We went the 1st night and were so blown away we wen the second night. Im my humble opinion, Karn Evil 9 experienced in full quadrophonic sound, live has to be experienced to be believed. Absolutly the best Progressive rock band ever recorded, Welcome Back, best live album ever. I feel so fortunate to have seen them at the peak of their creativity.

I was fortunate to see ELP with the full orchestra at MSG, NYC back in 1977. It was the WNEW-FM's concert that they did every year near the holidays. I remember them opening to Abaddons Bolero, and how the orchestra walked out on stage one by one all wearing white ELP T-shirts. That was the 1st time saw them. I had tickets for the Roosevelt Stadium show a few yrs prior that was postponed due to bad weather but I couldnt go on the rescheduled day. (I was too young to drive & No one could take me) I have been a fan since the their 1st LP. I still marvel at Keith Emersons ability to play the way he did, & Carl Palmers drumming. I saw them one more time at Princeton College,, probably around 1979 I think. I didnt see the reunion tour in the mid 90's.. I kind of wish I did now. Tarkus & Brain Salad Surgery are probably my 2 favorites out of all.

I saw ELP at the Civic Auditorium in Omaha, Nebraska in November of 1976. I was a junior in high school and my high school football team was playing for the state championship that night - I chose ELP. It was the right choice. I remember their wall of speakers and I thought they put out more sound than any 3 guy band I ever saw. I didn't think there was any way they could reproduce the sythesizer in concert - but they did it. I especially remember them coming back from break with Karn Evil 9 - incredible. Palmer's drum solo brought the house down. ELP was an incredible band - thanks for the memory!

Saw this tour in Richmond, VA, sans orchestra. Will never forget being amazed with the opening set, that was so good that many thought the show was over...and then having some guy in a kimono say "Stay tuned..the second half better than the first!" And, yes, it was. A great memory.

The first time I saw ELP was Dec. 18th, 1973 at Madison Square Garden, NYC. The ticket price was $6.50 [I still have the stub]. I remember trying to figure out how to scrape up enough money to go see concerts in those days, ha... can you imagine! I saw them a few times afterwards, once at the Nassau Coliseum. I remember Carl Palmer slamming a huge hanging, dragon-painting gong. They were an amazing band. I saw them last when they toured with Jethro Tull at Jones Beach. I wish they would still play from time to time. Rock on!

Elp was the first band I ever saw in concert. It was the Civic Arena in Pittsburgh (1971 or 2). The air was thick with smoke and I was forced to hold my date on my shoulders for more time than I care to mention. I did sneak a real to real recorder into the show. I no longer have the tapes and they weren't all that clear. but what a show. Especially for my first ever concert. Saw them also as ELPowel. Front row seats. Blew me away. Waldo Young

I think Tarkus and The Black Sabbath parinoid ablmn's they were in my book the utmostin ---how the Hell did they get that sound? I mean when I bought Parinoid in 72 or there a bouts and put it on my record player. I just sat there and went "how the hell did they get that sound? It was the same with Tarkus I just couldnt believe three guys could get music so full and -Damn different, How the hell did they do that . saw them at the Hollywood Bowl lets see Edgar Winters White Trash-- Humble Pie-- and ELP on one show................It was the Tarkus Tour and Keith had fallen of the stage into the pool during rehursal He was warming up backstage on the piano and playing the most beauitful things on the piano. if I only had had a casette recorder HAHA.. but when they played that song the place went bonkers. Thanks for the memory of a Great Band.
