Concert Summary

After breaking up the horn/gospel inspired White Trash big band, Edgar Winter returned in 1972 with the lean and mean four-piece Edgar Winter Group. With it came his landmark, multi-platinum album, They Only Come Out At Night. This short but electrifying show, taped in Santa Monica in February of 1973, features the original line-up, including ace guitarist Ronnie Montrose (who departed after the Night record and Winter’s 72/73 world tour to start his own group with an unknown singer named Sammy Hagar).

    After They Only Come Out At Night, Edgar released Shock Treatment, featuring guitarist Rick Derringer, in place of Ronnie Montrose. Montrose released his self-titled album in 1973 so I believe it was more a case of Ronnie leaving instead of being replaced. If you saw him in the summer of'73, I'd say it was Derringer.

    I saw Edgar in the summer of 73 in Fresno, Ca. at the Selland Arena...Montrose had been replaced by a new guitarist...I never found out this guys name...any info/details are very much appreciated....pstupar@aol.com
