Concert Summary

Ozzy may be the Prince of Darkness, but Ronnie James Dio is the Elfin King of Evil!

After reigning as the lead ghoul in TWO prototypical metal bands - Black Sabbath and Rainbow - Ronnie James struck out on his own in 1983 ‘cuz he knew he could do it better. He certainly didn't disappoint with Holy Diver, the first album from the band that could only be known as DIO. Like fellow black magicians Ozzy Osbourne and …entire summary

What a show!!!!!!We waited at the mall all night for the tickets, and got on the 1st level. The day before the show my buddy calls and says, " Hey you know where I can get rid of two front row tickets to Dio?", I said " I'll be there in 5 minutes."The rest is history. It was my 5th concert, and we were well under the influence.Within seconds of the start the whole crowd surged forward, and we spent the show pressed against the rail.[did not care]If you look on the video you can see my sunburn from the flashpots, which shot pretty darn far in the air.The cool part was we had no clue it was being taped till we got to our seats.I was fortunate to be able to do security for him at a local Pa club, which allowed me to meet him n the boys.{really wanted to meet Wendy tooo!}He's a good guy, and 1 of the best rockers ever!!!, and that day in Philly cemented my fanhood for life.

I was at this very show in Philly. I was a 15 year old kid who had just moved to Wilmington, Delaware. This was the first time I ever saw Dio and my friends and I walked out of there stunned at how awesome he was. I would see him 2 more times at the Spectrum. I always remembered Dio telling the Philly audience that Philly was his favorite place to play. He probably even says it in this show. 3 years ago Dio played a club here in Austin, TX and I got to meet him. I told him I was at this particular show (this show was filmed also) and I asked him if Philly was truly his favorite place to play or did he just say that to every city he visited. He told me it was true and Philly is the only place that gets that from him. He told me that the fans in Philly were the first ones not to boo him and actually embrace him as Ozzy's replacement in Black Sabbath. He said because of that Philly will always be special to him. I am almost 40 years old now and just saw him with Heaven and Hell a couple of months ago touring with Judas Priest in San Antonio. He still sounds like he did back in the 80's and totally still rules. I always loved Judas Priest and Rob Halford was always my favorite metal vocalist however after seeing them both on the same night that honor now goes to Dio. Kudos to Dio for keeping himself in shape and staying true to his profession. Unfortunately I can't say the same for Halford.

This is a great concert. Dio was great then and is still amazing today. This band rocks all the way through the set. I remember this concert when it aired on the radio. I have a copy on cassette. I know that it was'nt this long. It is great to hear the entire show. LONG LIVE ROCK AND ROLL!

Vinny Appice at his finest! Solid, hard driving drum fills the entire performance! Philadelphia always has been one of DIO'S favorite stops on ANY of his tours! I was at this concert. I was 18 and this was the week before I left to attend Berklee College of Music. I remember it like it was yesterday! The concert review is the same vanilla review as the 10/5 83' DIO review! Very unprofessional indeed! - Mike Angelucci Norristown, Pa. 10/17/08

Saw this tour in August of '84 in Poughkeepsie NY. TS cancelled. This show was an incredible experience that excited and terrified at the same time (I was 14). Now 24 years later I'm going to him again with Black Sabbath in New Jersey with Priest, Motorhead, and Testament. I believe Geoff Nicholls was the keyboard player on this tour. My friends and I used to listen to Holy Diver and stare at the album cover and basically scare the living s**t out of ourselves. DIO!!!!!
