Concert Summary

Nearly an exact duplicate of the first set recorded the night before, this Bowie show seems to contain a tad more energy and tightness than the previous night. It's clear that Bowie is definitely enjoying the experience of working with this world class band, which features Lenny Pickett and members of the Tower of Power horn section. Both Carlos Alomar, who started his work with Bowie on Young Americans in 1975, and Earl Slick, who replaced original Bowie axeman Mick Ronson in 1974, provide guitars that work exceptionally well together. Yes, in fact they are the Sims Brothers. Saw the tour stop in Hartford, CT and it was great. I've seen Bowie a few times and he never lets you down!!

For what it's worth. Pretty sure Joyce and Kevin Simms are in fact Frank & George Simms AKA The Simms Brothers.

The best Bowie accompanied by a spectacular band with a perfect sound.

The band sounded really tight, especially Tony T. on percussion. Saw David a couple of years back in New Orleans, fantastic show (3 hours)! I wish I'd had the chance to see him perform when he was younger...ahhh, the price for living in The South(USA).

Think the reason for the band and the show seeming just that bit better than the night before was down the the absolute slating the gig on the 12th got in the local press. Mainly down to the abysmal sound on offer. This forced a re-think for the following night with a more concerted (no pun intended)effort by all concerned. This tour was infamous for sound quality problems, with Bowie even asking Tony Visconti to attend the Edinburgh show in Scotland (my home town) to evaluate the issue. Visconti agreed with the general view...the sound was crap! Bowie "begged" Visconti to help out but family committments prevailed with Visconti only doing the Hammmersmith benefit gig. Not even the chance to do the sound at MSG could shift him.
