Clarence Clemons, also known as "The Big Man" in his other life as a member of Bruce Springsteen’s E Street Band, had a viable solo career when he released a couple of successful albums in the mid-1980s. This show was recorded at the onset of his first solo U.S. tour, at Ripley’s Music Hall in Philadelphia, a favorite spot of the Springsteen crowd.

    Johnny Bowen used to work securrity with me at the Tower in Upper Darby back in the early '80s. In fact he used to borrow my car to make trips to singing gigs back in Jersey. I had moved to Seattle when the two CC & the Red Bank Rockers records were released, so I never saw the band live, but after listening to this set ... I wished I had. What happened to JT Bowen?

    This show rocks! I grew up in/around Red Bank, but had long left before Bruce and Clemmons moved into the neighborhood. Would have loved to see this show!

    I used to see these guys often in the mid 1980's. Clarence had his own club in Red Bank, NJ just down the street from the Count Basie Theatre. The vocalist "JT" Bowen was fantastic. Wilson Pickett and Otis Redding wrapped up into one. The band had other notables including Harvey Brooks on bass formally of the Electric Flag. Sorry to see this great bar band disapear...
